I have been working at SevOne full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The company is doing well so it has been a lot of fun being in at the ground floor. The people are all generally very fun to hang around and are very relaxed. The fact that you have options to play video games, jam with other musically inclined people and play frisbee only makes it better.

Cons

With the rapid growth and focus on expansion there are more rules and processes with everything. This has an unintended effect of discouraging the fun and open atmosphere that was previously enjoyed.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I realize that more guidelines are necessary as the company grows, but please do not let them interfere with the culture. Hanging out and having fun (while getting work done of course) should be encouraged.

    Pros

The company is hiring. If you are in college or just out of college they will hire you. There are a few folks who are really knowledgeable and very helpful - mostly in lower level sales and marketing. These select few are really the meaning behind the "culture of awesome". The Sales Enablement team will give you training in the beginning. You will get a new computer when you start. They understand if you have a family issue and are flexible there.

    Cons

SevOne stands for Severity One - a very scary term for IT professionals. Try to sell when you open with that name. Ug. If you are not from the ITSM industry, you will not succeed in a sales role at this company. The company says it has a culture of 'awesome' but that is simply a way to convince people to work here - it's not real. The company says it wants to go public in two years but the numbers are not there. Benefits are ok, but you will not get stock options. Bain Capital's investment made sure of that. There is a new CEO from Bain Capital and that means that the company is still in transition. Look out for continued layoffs with a continued hiring push to please wall street. This is very costly for a start-up in costs and employee moral. The 80/20 rule really applies here; i.e. only 20% of the sales team is making 80% of the revenue. Sales enablement is a joke. The product is buggy and it's hard to be competitive to prove ROI. If you join as a sales person this year, you will not make commission this year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The best sales teams have small field sales teams and many in house inside sales reps. This is not only cheaper for the company but the best way to keep your expensive field teams engaged and in constant conversations and sales and the inside team happy, paid handsomely, and productive. Stop hiring in sales and more in engineering so that product is not so buggy. That is the most embarrassing aspect to the company.

    Pros

I joined SevOne as a SMARTS intern during Spring semester, and enjoyed it here! The learning curve is steep, but if you have the right background you'll glide through it. You are exposed to multiple roles during the internship, and so for someone without a lot of real experience you can figure out where you belong. Lots of fun activities going on all the time: free food, ice cream, video games, everything is casual.

    Cons

More structure/ more training during initial few weeks would be helpful.
