Great place to work if your single. Married or with children RUN!

Sales Diamond Consultant (Former Employee)
Indianapolis, IN

ProsThe best reason to work for Shaneco is it's high pay. The pay and benefits are the best in the jewlery industry. There are always chances to advance your career as they like to promote from within. There also is a discount after working for 6 months on all products in the store. Shaneco is a team orientated working environment. Shaneco employees with the exception of management are paid hourly. The sales position is non-commision. There also is a beyond base pay incentive for stores that qualify after hitting a certain dollar amount in profitability. They do pay outs for this system by adding a certain number of hours to your paycheck once the store has qualified.

ConsCommunication is filtered from the top down and once the information gets to management it is not always divulged. If the information is divulged it is not always in a group format, but told to a few individual employees to pass along. Have you ever played the telephone game? The sales person must be highly adaptable to change as company policies and store policies change frequently. (approx every 3 months). Training is not always the best and you constantly struggle to keep up. Usually training (outside of the manual) is done by other 'seasoned' employees on the floor, the downside to this is that if they learned something wrong they teach the new person the wrong way as well. Write ups and probations are frequent and expected of employees who have been there a number of years. Individuals are typically written up at least 2 times per year. If you want to take advantage of the poromtion possibilities with in the store be prepared to move to a different state, this is the only way in which you are allowed to move up in the company. If you have a family with children this company will not be friendly to your needs. Three days maximum is the limit for sick time per year. Go beyond that number and you could be written up, followed by being fired.

Advice to Senior ManagementLISTEN AND RESPOND! Don't just listen to things and sit on them. COMMUNICATE....COMMUNICATE....COMMUNICATE. Don't act like nazi Germany and spy and report on everything you see. Allow for some freedom in the workplace. The assistant managers control too much through micro-managment.
