I have been working at ShaneCo

Pros

The pay is above average and the benefits are comparable to those offered by other retail jewelry stores. The stores are closed on several holidays. Lieftime warranty makes selling easy.

Cons

The training material is so outdated it is ridiculous. The powers that be change policies/procedures on a whim and can't keep materials up to date because of that.
The hours look great on paper but you never work what you are scheduled. Salaried managers are scheduled a minimum of 45 hours a week but always work more. It is next to impossible to maintain a stable family life and satisfy the scheduling requirements.
The executives make changes constantly that directly affect the stores but it doesn't seem like they truly understand how the stores operate and the changes are rarely effective.
This company is an example of micro-mananging to the highest. Big brother is always watching. You never know when someone is watching through the security cameras until they call to tell you everything you are doing wrong.
The company values the customers far more than it does it's employees. If a customer complains you might as well kiss your job goodbye. Upper management will never stick up for anyone at the store level.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have faith in your store management staff. Sometimes customers are just plain unreasonable but those at the Home Office that handle the complaints always assume the worst of the store employees & managers. It would be nice to be supported by your superiors but that never happens.
Get off the cameras and truly spend some time in the stores. You can't get a clear picture of what happens in the stores by spying through the security cameras.

    I worked at ShaneCo

    Pros

The owner is very commited to driving the proper experience for customers. He made some poor leadership decisions...people he trusted, which significantly hurt the company...current Ops leader lacks intergrity. The benefits were superior for retail. Good discount...clean working environment.

    Cons

The owner is great, but the senior leadership that he at times selected were poor leaders which cost the company in revenue and talent. At certain levels, many appointed to position based on relationship with VP...but not competent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek out employees that are committed to do the right things. Encourage dissent in the proper context...d o n t promote based...

I have been working at ShaneCo

    Pros

    The customers
    The pay
    The discount is decent

    Cons

You are micromanaged and worked to the bone ( I was told the position was 40 hours a week and I would actually work 45-55 hours a week, sometimes all day as the only manager.)

Management is quick to blame everyone else for the store's failures

The company is privately owned so they are constantly changing their rules which makes it difficult to always be on the same page with your employees and customers

Favortism! Don't preach not to hang out with your staff if you do so yourself

    High school drama pettiness

Working 14 hours in one day and if you are lucky you get a one hour break

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do you really know what is going on in your stores? A visit doesn't really tell you everything. How can you let people that you like stay that aren't doing what they need for the store to be succesful?
