I worked at Shaw Group

Pros

It's a big company, so flexible hard workers should be able to hang on.

Cons

Lots of overhead on your rate. Offices do not share work that well, so you may not always have the best person for a job working on it.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay flexible and continue to invest in your staff. The company is well suited to large jobs and government work.

    Pros

Great people to work with for the most part. Salary near the top realm.

    Cons

No recognition for hard work. HR Dept,. completely corrupted. Owner sends out e-mails recommending how you should vote. Revolving door of employees. Nepotism at its finest. Incompetant carryovers from companies purchased such as United Crafts. Infighting and lack of cooperation among Stone & Webster / Shaw Constructors, and among offices. Lack of trust. Owner is unprofessional and a yeller. Management is told to give employees "C"'s for the most part on evaluations. Personally participated in two years of "increase freezes" where only the select few received raises and most did not, regardless of work. You will definetely feel like just a numbder at Shaw.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Information does not flow down well at all. Employees whom work hard are not recognized and should be. Do something about the poor morale and lack of trust and cooperation. Everyone's a Vice President - you have too many chiefs. Prove to our employees taht you are capable of treating them well and they are valued. Get in touch with the worker bees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you have moved from a decentralized organization to a very highly structured corporate top down and created a bureaucracy of politics and in-fighting
