I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Big company, small town. Great values and leadership. Industry leader in service quality and, usually, cost. Growing product and geographic diversity. Due for a substantial rebound in volume after many years of sluggishness.

Cons

Too heavy on carpet products in the mix. Difficult industry economics (housing). Strong competitive challenges in base products.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep diversifying, keep a steady hand.

Good company to learn skills and training, but not to move up.

I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Continuous training and lots of it.
Your skills and knowledge skyrocket while working here.
Great opportunity to learn the ropes in manufacturing.
    Very hands on.

    Cons

    My division constantly cuts hours.
    Layoffs are common.
Promotions and wage raises are rare.
You are better off working in corporate headquarters than manufacturing facilities.
Carpet manufacturing industry has been experiencing a continuing downturn for the last few years and no signs of recovery.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Layoffs always start from top down... there are way too many supervisors/managers versus hourly employees.
