Pros

Great people. Open knowledge share. Fun culture.

Cons

Being owned by a foreign company sometimes results in attitudes toward corporate culture at odds with some American sensibilities.

    Pros

    - Smart senior leadership (Vikram is pretty brilliant!).
    - Genuinely good people in manager roles -- dedicated, loyal, fair, knowledgeable, etc.
    - Very nice coworkers, laid back environment (wear shorts, sandals, etc.)

    Cons

    - Q4 pretty much blows as it's chaos -- retail's bust season
    - You can get called off hours as the internet never closes.
    - It will never be a large company...it's pretty much the same place over the last 5 years.

    Advice to Management

Milk the cows, slay the dogs.

  2. Seemed fine at first... But has gone downwards since last year. Lots of people quit.

    Pros

get to learn new stuff if lucky
    free food on tuesdays
    company outings

    Cons

Since the time Shoplocal lost some big clients, a lot of pressure is put on the Sales team to generate revenue. Client Services Directors (BA) bring in poor requirements to the developers. The IT team follows agile with 9 day sprint, but it is not enough time to work on something that is not well defined. People are very burnt out, the same complaints are mentioned in the retrospection meetings. 6 developers, 3 QA, 2 designers and several CSD and several senior management, who have been with the company for 12 years, have left the company within past 3 years. There is no way to grow here. Management/ pmo/ tech leads are indifferent about making people work long hours. There is favoritism and only certain people get recognized and made to grow. The environment is stressful to work in most departments

Compensation is not great for the amount of labor pushed on people. Certain project managers are not experienced and annoying to work with.

The company is moving all the .NET code to Python. It is disappointing when one is hired to code in .NET and will be made to code in totally different language.

    Advice to Management

Stop being cheap and hire more people. Listen to your employees concerns, It is a BIG loss when talented employees leave, most of whom have been with the company for more than 10 years.
