Former Employee - Front Store Supervisor in Vancouver, BC (Canada)

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Unionized, train their staff exceptionally well and is a great place to learn the basics of handling cash, customer service, loss prevention and inventory control. Willing to help staff learn new jobs, positions.

    Cons

Low pay scale for cashiers who tend to be considered bottom of the rung after managers, supervisors, pharmacists. Management can be dramatically different from one store to another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Atmosphere could be a bit more relaxed - there is too much focus on rules and loss prevention.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Company discount. Associate/Owner if you have a good one.

    Cons

Over worked, too much stress from Head Office. Reduced labour hours and dollars causing too much work load for the staff and since the manager is the only salaried employee, the work overflow falls to them. There is little or no work life balance for the Manager. These cuts also result in less then excellent customer service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please stop focusing on your bonus and do what is right for the business. If there are standards, then why do they differ with each District Manager or V.P. ? We are fundamentally a good company - very profitable, but we could be so much more if the resources were improved and the employees at store level were treated better and respected. We are a health care provider and we don't even care about the employees that work within our stores. Work life Balance ???
