I have been working at ShoreTel as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Comfortable working environment and easy collaboration between groups. Nice amenities. A lot of very smart but moderately-friendly people here.

    Cons

Tends to erratic hiring practices. Occasionally people are simply hired. More often though, they are hired with a carrot and stick approach. "We'll hire you as a consultant to assess your abilities and then if it works out, we'll make an offer." I've talked to quite a number of employees for whom that 1 month can stretch to 24. Also, maintaining a large population of consultants as if they were 'regular employees' allows them to make cutbacks without reporting downsizing to the SEC so there's less negative effect on the stock price.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Standardize more. It's not a start-up anymore and shouldn't have the disorganization of a startup nor the lack of centralized knowledge of common things. (By the later, I mean that there are proprietary pieces of information that would be useful to any new employee. No-one should be using acronyms that are non-standard with some sort of magical explanation as to what they are,)
