Siemens IT Solutions and Services – “Where IT gets it's start, or goes to die”

Pros

Siemens offers a very good benefits package compared to other similar companies. I would consider it a good "foot-in-the-door" for the budding IT professional. Starting pay decent if you have realistic expectations. Good training and they will even pay for some of your certifications. Most of the employees are respectful and friendly. The key to being successful in any industry is excellent people skills and customer service, both of which you should master while working here.

Cons

Don't bother working here if you expect raises or promotions. No one has received a raise in the last 3 years, and when raises are given they are across the board. You will not receive a raise based on merit......it's all or none (usually none). Very heavy emphasis is placed on accountability and you are reminded of that fact almost daily. Promotions are few and very far between. Most of the helpdesk agents never leave their positions. They may lateral from one helpdesk position to another, but seldom are promoted. At times you will feel less like an employee and more like a number, but overall they treat you fairly and even ask for your input on various topics. Like my headline reads, it is where I.T. gets it's start, or goes to die. I have had a few interviews with other companies that saw Siemens listed on my resume telling me that they are looking for someone with "real" experience.

Advice to Senior Management

Personally, I work with excellent, devoted and caring managers. They do not hide in their offices and I appreciate that. Siemens would be a much better place to work if all the managers were as personable as the ones I work with. If I need anything, they are usually pretty easy to approach.
