I worked at Siemens

Pros

Good salary and benefits as befitting a mega corporation. Siemens has some wonderful products and even better people, but the lack of communications from upper management to the employees stinks. Maybe this comes from the German background where you are just supposed to shut up and follow orders, but it makes for a less than pleasant work experience.

Cons

Downsizing and believes in the mushroom principle (keep them in the dark and pile poop on them). Here you have great people and they are ignored. The constant specter of a division being sold or downsized demoralizes everyone. Then there is the little problem of bribes that has gotten Siemens in trouble around the world. That gets around to your customers and hurts credibility.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little communications would be nice. You have some great products and great people -- respect them on occasion.

I have been working at Siemens

    Pros

The support for good work / life balance is fantastic. While there is a lot of work to be done and at times the hours are long they are also very flexible. Some times you work long hard hours, other times not so much.

They provide a lot of opportunity for learning.

I enjoy working with customers and colleagues.

    Cons

The recent layoffs and financial problems have made it difficult to focus on delivering value. There is a lot of uncertainty and people are waiting for clarification on the company's future direction and structure.

The organizational structure is such that everyone is forced to focus on individual application silos. It is difficult to do something that benefits the company as a whole if it doesn't advance your silo's agenda

The company is very large, it is hard to understand the entire portfolio. Nobody can explain the entire healthcare experience and how Siemens products fit into that experience across the entire suite, especially if you cross the former operating company boundaries.

Sales sometimes sells "concepts" that do not exist as products - not a problem unique to Siemens.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Kill the silo mentality - change the organizational and incentive structure to make it happen.

Appoint a CTO who can drive consistency in technology adoption between applications.

    Clarify what our portfolio is.

    No opinion of CEO
