I worked at Siemens USA full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

I was able to do what I do best each day. I made good relationships and was able to touch many parts of the business.

Cons

The company when through a restructure and Siemens gives no warning to employees they are going to let go. Not even at the Sr. Management level. They just take your stuff and walk you out the door.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do what you can to let your people know if their job is in jeopardy.

I worked at Siemens USA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are German, or really like to kiss butt, great place for you.

    Cons

Passive aggressive. Management is massively political. Germany calls all the shots. They stress cost cutting. None of sr. managers live in ATL. CEO flies in from FL, CFO from CA, HR from FL, CEO from TX, Pres from MI, Legal from IL. Seriously?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have to live with yourselves. Just wonder how you do. Disgusting group of people.

I have been working at Siemens USA full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good Medical Benefits.
Front-line workers and engineers generally great collegues

    Cons

Has a bad rep at local colleges so recent grads don't apply.
HR often hires people who can BS them.
No plan for professional development. Their Performance Management plan is a joke, and managers typically don't send employees for training and don't clearly define what is needed to move up to the next level.
Engineer attrition is approx 50% per year.
Recent reorgs in the past few years have left employees disoriented. Many profit centers internally that continually fight. Very little internal cooperation between business managers.
Pay scales are approx 20% below Atlanta average. Once hired, raises are almost nonexistent.
Majority of internal movement is lateral.
If you want to look back on 10 wasted years of your career, this is the place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take employee surveys seriously.
Put forth programs for employee ideas that go beyond cost cutting. Many times, improving product and customer service requires an increase in cost in the short term.
Put forth a concise, step-by-step plan for PM@Siemens that people can follow, as though they were going for an MBA.
