Pros

Decent Pay, A Solid Product, Opportunity to Improve, Clean Safe Working Conditions.

Cons

The employee scholar program that attracted so many people is going away...
The hourly work force is unionized and under even the most poorly performing hourly employees appear to have a job for life at the expense of the rest of the company.
There is no incentive pay for lower ranked salary employees.
Overtime pay is limited to hourly positions and a few engineers in some programs.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop an incentive program so that all employees can benefit from extra hard work. The employee scholar program WAS the bonus structure for non-executive salary employees.
Gym memberships or subsidized child care might help to attract and retain the younger workforce.
Focus on accountability even at the lowest levels. When coworkers under perform with no consequences it is demotivating and creates resentment.
Instead of having 3 furlough days, delaying raises for a few months, and cutting 2% of the workforce, we could have cut the bottom 5% or more and had a better company afterward.

    I have been working at Sikorsky

    Pros

    - The facility and area is fantastic, making West Palm Beach an attractive location for anyone to relocate to.
    - As soon as you start, you will notice that the FAFO location is air conditioned and only about 2 years old, making it a comfortable place to work, in the hot Florida weather.
    - The company offers tuition reimbursement, (although there are caps and limits).
    - Health insurance begins on your 31st day for hourly and salary.
    - Salary personnel can start utilizing the 401k and Roth IRA plan after 30 days.
    - The Union for hourly personnel is powerful (almost to a fault).

    Cons

    - You will never go anywhere in the company because Sikorsky does not hire from within.
    - Raises are not just low, they are non-existent.
    - Salary personnel make about 1/3 less than 90% of the hourly personnel.
    - Salary personnel do not get treated the way the company handbook says they will. For instance, after 45 hours, you do NOT get paid straight time for hours worked; you do NOT get comp time for working weekends; you are NOT treated like a human being.
    - No matter how hard you try, you will never make a difference, you will never get anywhere, and you will never, EVER get any recognition for doing anything, unless you do it wrong.
    - Executive management lies to everyone below them, at every opportunity.
    - Sikorsky promotes hourly personnel based on seniority only, regardless of talent or experience; so there are a lot of inexperienced children leading aircraft that do not know the difference between tires and windshield wipers.
    - People are going to die because Sikorsky will not realize the fundamental problem of promoting people based on seniority alone. These aircraft will fail under this inept leadership pool and Sikorsky is doing nothing, even though management agrees.
    - HR is afraid of the Union and will not stand behind the supervision staff, in times of reprimand or discipline.
    - Most of the Union officials in the company (stewards, etc.) do not work and nobody does anything about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire some leaders. If Pino had half a clue what was really going on in the company, he would fire 80% of these worthless, blind, uneducated, experience-lacking supervisors and managers. HR needs to grow a spine and stand up to the Union; they are killing our company. Get rid of the PC department. They do not do anything. Get rid of the upper management in West Palm Beach and hire some people from and AIRCRAFT company, that know the difference between doing a good job and doing a job over. Train your people! It is cheaper than doing the job twice! Make sure inspection has more experience than the entry level mechanical and electrical people! What a stupid idea it was to hire inspectors with no experience! Treat your management like people instead of floor mats and they will return the favor and lead your company instead of just showing up and dealing with this dead-end situation. Give the management something to look forward to. Give the hourly staff a reason to work. START FIRING PEOPLE FOR NOT WORKING!

    100% Tuition Reimbursement
    10K Bonus after completion of a degree
    The Possibilty of a promotion from another company with your MS or PHD!

    Cons

    Standard Work does not exist
    Sikorsky way is the only way
    Very Tribal
    Mentoring does not exist
    Employees are not recognized for their efforts

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop wasting money on frivolous crap like a Sikorsky OC Chopper. BTW - It looks terrible
    Provide raises and promotions.
    Overhaul of Management.
