I worked at Silver Spring Networks Inc. full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Technology is promising, but can take another decade to bear some real fruits.

    Cons

Technology takes too long to go through Pilot testing.
Too Political. Its not what you know, its who you know and who you are willing to kiss up to.
Obvious conflict of interest all over engineering and middle-management team.
    No process, lack of predictability.
Lack of trust amongst employees. Everyone is holding on to their own information to protect their job security, rather than sharing and helping with progress for the company. Lack of documentation, so that these unsecured employees can hang onto their tiny knowledge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put your foot down and start to demand changes. Get rid of middle management, very political. Only feed you what you want to hear, and not necessarily the reality. They are all stale and can't think out of the box. If you want real change, you have to do some real house cleaning... Need to change overall culture for more open communication, rather than all secret meetings, that does not promote trust amongst employees and management team. You have much bigger challenge in the management front than technology. If you think your challenge is technology and customers, you're wrong.
