Current Employee - Caregiver in Houston, TX
Current Employee - Caregiver in Houston, TX

I have been working at Silverado full-time (more than an year)

Pros

understanding cooperative management, team work, good work environment, positive attitude rewarded, residents treated well, in services for how to do a better job with residents, tools available to do your job

Cons

salary compensation low but matches most other places for caregiver, (they should lead in provisions for caregivers- goes along with their mission statement to be different) no company paid health insurance, longevity with company should be rewarded, (there would be less and less turnover)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

should have some pay raise incentives or stair stepping available for caregivers, nurses have this, the core of the business is provided by caregivers and they are the least paid.(hence there is a large turnover of caregivers, good ones have to eventually leave to find better pay)

I worked at Silverado full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Silverado communities are very good for residents.
Great place to work until 2011 when company sold...finest people anywhere. Rightfully won awards.
Company's philosophy is Love is Greater than Fear

    Cons

With one or two exceptions, all the great people are gone from the corporate office.
The executives are having a very serious problem finding and keeping anyone in leadership positions because some new managers are very controlling and old managers are afraid.
Sadly, "Love is Greater than Fear" is now bogus.
HR is unsympathetic - even to the point of betrayal - to good, long-term, trusting employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Admit you recently made some big mistakes, get rid of the bad guys and get your company back on track to the big success it was before you sold it.

Residents give you lots of love, but management treats you very poorly.

I worked at Silverado full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The residents are the reason you work there. The smiles on their faces and the love they reciprocate towards you is the best feeling! It doesn't feel like work when you're spending time with people you love.

    Cons

The senior administrator is cold, unfriendly, unapproachable, intimidating, and never smiles. Not the qualities you would expect from someone in such a position. The management really does not demonstrate appreciation for the hard work you do. That appreciation comes from the residents and their families.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would advise the management to concentrate on their community, instead of sending half the management teams to help out other Silverados.
