I have been working at SimplexGrinnell full-time for less than a year

Pros

Benefits, Advancement Potential, Training, Plenty of opportunities.

Cons

Run by accountants - financial reporting - short term thinking.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in labor, avoid running districts so lean on staff that opportunities go unquoted. You can't win work (contract) if it isn't quoted. If staff that quotes work is also tasked with project management you will end up quoting less work. Don't run too lean. It has unintended consequences.

Company is too bottom-line driven at the cost of customers and employees

I have been working at SimplexGrinnell full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits, fantastic training opportunites, many great people

    Cons

Management cares only for the bottom line. Employees are always afraid of getting the 'hatchet' if numbers are not reached. Morale in the districts is low which affects work performance. In some districts, the last friday and first friday of the month are known as 'fire me, Friday's'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

lay of the reports and spreadsheets. This causes middle managment to panic when numbers are not optimal - when they panic, they pass that panic to their employees and also pass along fear of layoffs. Get out in the field instead of making decisions from your cushy offices. The people that you are laying off are living paycheck to paycheck - instead of laying them off, why not take a pay cut from the top managers instead? What do they provide the company other than 9 billion reports that mean the same thing?

I have been working at SimplexGrinnell full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Vehicles, tools, and training is great. Fire alarm products are easy to master if you have good technical skills. Pay is really good because of the union, and there is always overtime here and there if you want to put the hours in.

    Cons

GPS installed in vehicles which supposedly was done to make dispatching easy, but it is really used to track people. If you are good at what you are do you will never get promoted because of the fear of who will replace you. Minorities are no where to be seen in management positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a way to add career advancement. Reward good workers!
