I have been working at SimplexGrinnell

Pros

Great benefits. Great co-workers. District management overall pretty reasonable and empathetic. Open door policy practiced. Management receptive to suggestions.

Cons

Not enough testing of equipment prior to field implementation. Enforcing shady labor practices. Expect to work at least 45 hours and get paid for 40. Many double standards on policy when it serves mgmt best interest. ie..don't talk on cell phones while driving but, call the customer when your in route. No focus on serving customers. Overall lack of vision for the future. No accountability above the district level. Very evasive mentality.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to refocus on the customer. Improve loyalty to district field personnel. Extend vision to include long term goals other than profit.

    Pros

Good benefits, company vehicle (for their use only), decent pay, co-workers are great, but also overstressed. Excellent products, 401k, sick pay, vacation (when they allow it). When the employees are left alone to do their job, they all work their butts off, when they think they are getting the shaft, they will work like they think they are getting the shaft.

    Cons

Upper management requires/encourages district management to use GPS as a tool to enforce shady labor practices. Corporate management sends out a notification to district managers, and puts them on a naughty list when an employee does not leave their home 30 minutes before start of a shift, even if their work site may be 10 minutes from their home. This has created a policy of making people work without compensation before the normal start time. Also, don't question their policies with corporate HR , or expect retaliation of yourself and your co-workers with even longer working hours supposedly mandated by corporate HR. Their inspection software is from the 80's making for inefficient use of time and extra work. Their ACE system is a joke, it is difficult to use adds extra workload for everyone. Since Tyco took over there have been no positives for service people- Longer hours without pay, loss of unused vacation payouts/banking, elimination of the overtime after 8 hours, or weekends/holidays, loss of use on personal vehicles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Turn off the GPS, or at least quit being heavy handed. Pay your employees for working. Quit think your low-level employees are out to screw the company. Only people screwing up this company is the management and thats you
