Pros

If you have very large enterprise accounts, you can make a lot of money

Cons

If you do not have very large enterprise accounts (not that many out there) you will make very little money no matter how much you sell. Yearly sales awards are broken out between enterprise sales people and mid market sales people. So only Enterprise sales people tend to win awards.

Advice to Management

Offer better comp plan for non enterprise sales staff.

Very good for the entrepreneurial, high-initiative types.

    Pros

Top management is outstanding -- watch and learn! If you "make your numbers" in services, they leave you alone. If you're in service delivery (i.e. field engineer), your manager probably won't care much about what hours you work (that is, you can and will work 90 hour weeks and 5 hour weeks) -- just build your reputation for getting the job done, on time and on budget without customers complaining and you're all set. NB: Sirius is a business -- carry your load or you won't last. Some like that, others don't.

    Cons

This is subjective. I rather like working hard, so have no complaints with big hours (although family and friends hate it) -- your mileage may vary. "Promotions" for field engineers don't exist. Frequently you have to "implement" a "solution" that has been sold to the client, but have to reverse-engineer the design because there's little or design data carried forward from the sales side to the services side. Each presales person seems to have his own "rules of thumb" that they use to approximate what the client might actually need. Sometimes the actual requirements are outside the use-cases served by the "rules of thumb" and so some creativity is needed to make sure what you end up implementing serves the client well.

    Advice to Management

Sure. And right after that, I'll teach Eli Manning how to throw a football. Are you kidding me? Mr. Najim and Mr. Mertens don't really seem to need much unsolicited advice at the moment.

  2. OK, but too much focus on short-term financials

    Pros

Sirius is a place that values and compensates top performers. The engineering talent at Sirius is exceptional...iron sharpens iron, and that holds true among the engineering team. Sirius also has a very broad base of customers spread around the country. There are some very good people on the leadership team at Sirius, with a real emphasis on continual improvement.

    Cons

Sirius is driven 100% by financials, and while it is a for-profit institution, there is a laser focus on short-term financial return. As someone coming from an acquired company, it is amazing how Sirius continues to grow with very minimal investment in process and infrastructure. The back office is an absolute mess, and things that used to be easy and work well are now broken and difficult to get done. I used to love the focus at my legacy company on innovative solutions and an exceptional experience, with financial success being a byproduct. Today, financials are primary with solutions and experience being necessary to accomplish the primary goal...subtle but important.

    Advice to Management

Please hire a COO to fix the organization and back office infrastructure...Sales controls the company, yet sales by its nature is focused only on short-term. Continue to invest in new technologies and the engineering organization, as that investment is the path to long term success.
