A good company to get broad experience, but poorly managed.

Pros

Many opportunities for people willing to work hard and stick their nose out. The product is exciting, good industry recognition, good pay, good benefits.

Cons

The reorganization after the merger is choking the life out of the company. Executive Management communicates poorly and has little vision. The company is not well disciplined in general. Earlier on, this allowed a lot of freedom to get things done. But as the company has grown, this lack of discipline (process, standards, etc.) has resulted in a lot of wasted effort, slow decision making, and confusion among employees as to roles and responsibilities.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create and communicate a mission statement and goals and objectives for the company and employees. Squash all the politics among management. Invest in technology for future growth.

    Pros

We did have interesting projects that were fun to work on. Unfortunately, there was a considerable amount of us versus them attitude that ran through most of the work going on including defining products and managing projects.

    Cons

Lack of career direction given from individual managers. They like for you to work, but don't really provide any growth potential unless you're one of the favored individuals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your members, avoid the politics of "us versus them" teams, and give some creative latitude. And most of all, give those hard working individuals a chance to have their voices heard. Not just those who might have been there from the early days who now want to control everything.

Exciting place to work if you can navigate the bureaucracy

Former Employee - Marketing Manager in New York, NY

    Pros

Relatively small workforce allows for access to top executives, and an ability to impact operations soon after joining. The company does provide excellent benefits, with a fantastic work location in midtown Manhattan. Like many entertainment companies, dress is generally casual, and the majority of people are friendly. There are also occasionally free shows that employees can show up and listen to when musicians come to perform on a particular channel. The best part of working at Sirius is that people generally have heard of it, and the people who use the service genuinely like it unlike many companies you could work for where you're marketing a product that just doesnt matter.

    Cons

Horrendous communication and support from Human Resources, generally low morale related to lack of success in the business over the last two years. The focus on providing the best music service possible has been uneven for the last few years due to the distractions of the merger, economic conditions, and frequent changes at the senior executive level. There is significant turnover at the lower levels, and of course with the recent merger there have been numerous layoffs which many people are focused on instead of running the business. Ultimately, the way corporate policy is communicated throughout the company is probably the worst I've ever seen, and as most people who work at the company know, this is directly the result of atrocious HR department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your customer service representatives better, and focus the marketing message better.
