Sisters of Mercy Health System – “Caution Advised: Be very careful which division you work for in IT.”
0 of 1 people found this helpfulPros
Mercy's IT division promote from within. There is a good work life balance with very little overtime expected.
Cons
Be careful what area you're in. There are some areas with completely inept management. When stuck in one of teams you're a disposable item that is only there to be berated, insulted and if they are succesful - completely miserable. Management does not know priorities, every day is a crisis, there is no such thing as sharing information and working in a silo and doing a poor job is rewarded. If you don't want to learn or be creative or actually solve problems you might find this management style tolerable. The pay is significantly lower than the region. They have not revised job classifications or job titles to align with the IT industry so you will be expected to several levels of work regardless of what your title or pay scale is.
Lots of cronyism amount management. There is a spirit among some teams to ridicule everyone else but themselves leaving the workplace a very unhappy environment. If you like to learn, do a good job, offer solutions to problems and help a growing IT division - do your homework. Stay away for certain areas.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire an unbiased external firm to conduct a management evaluation and listen to them. Management should be building knowledgable teams, encouraging creative and innovative solutions and working as teams. Some of the existing management will have to be replace.
