I worked at SkyWest full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

The workplace and the company as a whole had a great family atmosphere, everyone working together to get the work done and the customers on their ways in the face of regular, uncontrollable irregularities. Non-monetary perks such as the flight benefits were a major plus, as were other substantial travel discounts. Open lines of communication between employees and all levels of management helped maintain the family atmosphere even as the company grew substantially. There were some opportunities to take on additional responsibilities.

Cons

The pay was quite poor and shift scheduling had the tendency to be chaotic. There were substantial shortcomings in employee development and career planning. While there were opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, they never came with a raise and rarely provided an advancement path. Standard benefits like health insurance, 401k match, etc. were average to sub-par, and degraded over time. In certain situations employee-employer expectations were misaligned and it took months for the company to clarify, leaving affected employees in a last-minute lurch. With these positions essentially subcontracted work for cost-conscious major airlines, job stability is anything but guaranteed.

    Pros

Schedule flexibility is possible, but that's because of Federal law. Management will help you, so be prepared to make it work on your own.

    Cons

All sticks, no carrots. If you like giving your best to barely make things work the way they should, you'll do well here until you burn out. Don't expect much help though. There are probably twenty people in the entire station that make the entire operation run, and management might be one or two of them.

I have been working at SkyWest full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great personal and friendly atmosphere. The people are competent and willing to train on any aspect of the job. They make you feel like you can do anything. Even after a hard day's work, you are well-rewarded with praise and continuous satisfaction.

    Cons

Pay is minimal but is counteracted by flight benefits. If a part-time job or full-time fun is what you are looking for... Skywest is the place to go. Unfortunately it can be a strain if you are trying to supplement family income but there are many employees who do this anyway because of the flexibility with seasons.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is actually very involved in every day dealings. This company has an 'open-door' policy. If you have advice, give it to them!
