No opinion of CEO

Pros

Technologically challenging and amusing, independent work plan & schedule, very good remuneration. Working schedule is extremely flexible—you can more or less work where and when you want as long as you deliver. The office has 24h free food which saves a lot of time. The social part of working at Skype is quite developed—team/company dinners/parties regularly. The company is also growing rapidly so there's no shortage of new stuff flowing in.

Cons

Not enough attention seems to have been paid to code/product/process/methodology quality in the beginning/recent years, albeit that is rapidly changing with a strong shift towards high standards and skill enhancement. The somewhat rapid growth rate can cause slight anxiety and restlessness.

Advice to Management

Find more sources of growth with people at hand as opposed to mainly concentrating on hiring.

  1. Overall work experience is good, but compensation and benefits could have been better.

    Pros

People around you are smart and helpful. You can learn a lot from them. Relationships inside the teams are very solid. Office is very nice, but see the one of the cons.

    Cons

Compensation is pretty low, and benefits are low too. They don't allow remote work, you have to come to the office every day, even thought the nature of your work allows to work from home.

    Advice to Management

Listen to middle manages and senior employees. Eliminate silly situations when orders from senior manager differ from the one given by employee's direct manager.

  2. Start-up days are culturally long gone, but still a great company

    Pros

Interesting technology, product that people don't just use but actually appreciate and are thankful for, reasonable level of flexibility in work arrangements

    Cons

A lot of development sites for a relatively small company leading to inevitable miscommunication or lack of communication or infighting
