I have been working at Slalom Consulting as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

Good team. Consultants very helpful in getting you started. Have established processes and templates that make a new person's job easy on the team

Cons

As a Project employee, I do not get any benefits, especially health insurance. My COBRA insurance will be running out in a couple of months and I will have to get my own insurance which may be very costly.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide health benefits to all consultants. It will elp retain good employees

Slalom is OK but does not live up to all their hype

    Pros

In general they leave you alone to do your work - as long as it is going OK and all is well with the clients. There is more flexibility than with many companies on dealing with life balance issues.

    Cons

They hype as this simply awesome place to work but it is just a big smokescreen effort to attract talent. They are much more body shop than they are willing to admit, not a true "consultancy" as they pretend to both clients and candidates for employment. Like all employers, they will throw you under the bus in a heart beat when you are vulnerable and not making them adequate margins, so don't get all into some warm fuzzy delusion that they are any different. The middle management is also very inexperienced and immature in the way they run the business. Not real pros. Understand that you are entering an environment that is on a continuous sales cycle. Delivery of client services is always secondary to scoring the next deal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow up and develop your middle management to be professional business people.

I worked at Slalom Consulting full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Many polished are bright individuals with various backgrounds. Many resource come from Accenture.

    Cons

Very immature regarding project and repeatable services delivery. The various practices don't seem to work well together, although they say they aspire to. No clear communications on company vision or direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to set clear direction for practices to follow. There seems to be a lot of "feeling their" way instead of relying on experienced individuals who can contribute.
