Pros

Family and community oriented environment makes job satisfying. People are friendly and caring. Feels like you belong and are wanted in the environment.

Cons

No money in budget for raise. Outdated equipment. Behind the times with procedures. Many doctors and personnel leave for advancement elsewhere.

Advice to Management

Become more competitive, environment is stagnant. Hospital is not attractive because organization is seen as outdated and that gives impression that skills will not be as advanced as other facilities

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Slidell Memorial Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Knowledgeable and friendly coworkers, that is just about the only upside. On general, the people who work here, across almost every department, are just great. The hospital does often promote from within, but opportunities are little to none if you are not clinical, and even if you're promoted there is not far you can go.

    Cons

Sub-market pay, sub-par benefits, horrible health insurance (oh the irony), seems like upper management is in it only for themselves, directors appear alternately clueless and overwhelmed, few opportunities for advancement, system supports a culture of fear wherein no one wants to complain or point out the problems unless they want to be let go. Directors and executives make obscene salaries while average employees can barely make ends meet.

    Advice to Management

Many employees barely make a living wage but keep this place running, pay them what they are worth. Clue yourself in to the actual responsibilities of EVERY job in the building, you look like clowns when you don't know what an employee actually does (I've seen this happen on both the clinical and business sides). Show some appreciation for the people who are actually toiling along to keep everything going smoothly behind the scenes, and not with stupid events like giving away popcorn. There is a reason we have such a high turnover and it's primarily because of the management and low pay.
