I have been working at Smart Meetings full-time (more than an year)

Pros

I actually like going to work everyday. I do a job I love. One of the best pros is definitely the people. It is a great staff, which makes a big difference. At times, the hours get long and I do face challenges but that is what keeps it interesting. There is a cycle of busy times and the times you aren't as busy, in the end it evens out. If you have an idea to improve the company or to save money, management listens to the idea. There is a team oriented frame of mind for the employees. The CEO cares about the company and supports those who make positive contributions.

Cons

Traffic, horrible traffic at times and possibly long commutes, but in the end if you like what you do the cons are tolerable.

None.

    Pros

    cool industry to be in.

    Cons

    So many where to begin and how to prioritize/categorize all the cons
    of this company!

    As a veteran sales professional there is a level of autonomy, trust
    and basic tools you expect to have to do your job. At SM you will be
    micro-managed, expected to follow the CEO's directions for doing your
    job, your job, and/or the jobs of others, will be constantly
    threatened.

    COMPANY REVIEWS: It has been confirmed by former and current employees
    that the "positive" reviews on this site were planted. The CEO
    directed a handful of employees to write them to offset the truths
    about the working environment.

    EMPLOYEE TURNOVER: Turnover is high from the events and sales team to
    the VP level which is a solid indicator that this is not a good
    company to work for.

    WORK/LIFE BALANCE: THERE IS NONE! You will sell your soul to SM and
    like it or leave!

    I don't know how you continue to con people into working there.

    I worked at Smart Meetings

    Pros

    - Work hard, play hard company culture
    - On occasion you may receive a bottle of wine, champagne, or free lunch as a perk for your loyalty and performance
    - Company is a leader in the planning industry for a small company size
    - Plenty of room to grow laterally if you want it

    Cons

    *****New employees are encouraged to write a review on this website when they first start. Since most don't know the company yet, of course they'll write something positive. Read 5-star reviews with a grain of salt.*****

    - Employee benefits are not competitive
    - Employee turn-over is high in the sales positions
    - Company is small with less than 50 employees
    - Human Resources department is non-existent or at least in conflict.
    - You are assumed to work more hours if you don't hit sales goals
    - Salary-only positions but you are required to work set hours. There is no flex hours ever.
    - There is no option to work remotely
    - You are expected to make a minimum number of phone calls per day, and that excludes the time you need to process any paperwork to close sales
    - Company is small enough where anything you say to anyone that is construed as negative or not favored will eventually get to the top executive

    Although some will say "if you have nothing good to say then quit the company" seeing all the unusual 5-star reviews doesn't give the website visitor a true review of the company experience. Note that reviewers are unable to make changes to their review after 30 days.

    Stop coercing new employees to write 5-star reviews.
