Pros

They provide pretty good benefits, and shortened work weeks and some progressive work policies. There are lots of different areas to be involved in so there is room for lateral movement. If you are willing to wait you may find yourself moving up the ladder. The best places to be are in the administration areas. These places are less demanding and have better options for advancement. The review process and HR are pretty solid. For the most part people are honest about performance and the company has done their best to work with difficult employees. The environment is fun and they do promote work life balance.

Cons

The management team is very "supportive". However there appears to be a real disconnect between what they say and what they do. Money is the real bottom line no matter what happens. There is a lot of religion in the office also. Seems like we have to pray for people a lot if there are personal issues within their families. It is hard to really move up. This is especially true if you are in production or in sales. Production has a lot of migrant workers and they are always causing problems with quality. Staff in either side are made to believe they are not a number when they really are. See the comment about the bottom line.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you were willing to pay more for quality people, or invest in them in clear ways to make them into quality staff, then they would likely stay longer, and increase profits in the long run.

I worked at SmartHealth full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

SmartHealth is a great, big company that tries hard to do right by it's employees. The CEO had the great idea to personally delivering periodic updates to the company, and as a result there was a sense of transparency and trust within the company. My co-workers diligently helped me grow from a rambunctious newbie into a professional.

    Cons

As a designer, none of the work i did was particularly creative or challenging. Most of my time was spent churning out rather generic advertisements, web pages and emails. Then again, churning out so much work on tight deadlines taught me a lot about attention to detail and good process.

I have been working at SmartHealth

    Pros

Small company, manager family oriented, telecommuting allowed depending on your manager/dept, senior management communicates financials and vision well, flexible schedule (can work earlier/later hours), employees with tenure, great place to get a wide range of experience

    Cons

Not great medical benefits, our cost to the company is communicated during open enrollment which is tacky, owner/CEO includes family photos and events in company meetings (not interested) as well as shares family holiday card with employees (insensitive to communicate how kids study abroad when employees are paid less than market value), really low pay vs. industry standards for most, some director level employees are overpaid based on their skills/abilities simply because they have be with the company several years, grumpy employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Brag less about how large you live, be sensitive to a poor economy and your contribution to that by playing employees less than market value, offer higher salaries so you can get more qualified employees
