I worked at Smucker as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Nice people, fun business, and lots of free food! Orrville is a nice quiet small town.

    Cons

The company is located in the middle of nowhere. Too much structure and up-tight people can be a drag.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the company more casual (attire)!

I have been working at Smucker

    Pros

I loved being a part of a huge company where the CEOs would pass you in the hallway and address you by your name. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Tim and Richard. Employees were well taken care of - free coffee, bagels, toast, and English muffins, wonderful cafeteria (cost less to eat there than at a fast food establishment), beautiful offices, opportunities to attend sporting events, cookouts, and Cedar Point company picnic. The list goes on and on. Extensive training was provided to immerse you in the corporate culture.

The people at Smucker are quality. Everyone is very intelligent and driven to succeed. The businesses were run thoughtfully and in a socially responsible manner.

    Cons

There was a lack of work/life balance in many parts of the Marketing department. Though flex time was offered (had to be in the offices between the hours of 9 and 4), it was really up to your manager as to what time you started the day.

Though Smucker is a very successful company and shouldn't fix what's not broken, the environment is very conservitive and those who think too far outside the box may feel a little supressed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Explore more part-time opportunities, flex schedules that are accepted accross all departments, and work from home situations.
