Good place to work- if you are French

IT Analyst (Current Employee)
Jersey City, NJ

I have been working at Société Générale

ProsLots of flexibility and independence given to employees (mostly due to the managers being totally hands off ...see Cons).
Talented Analysts and Developers (lots of smart employees at that level)

ConsIt is not unusual for management positions to be given to persons who have no real experience or banking knowledge...solely on the basis of their being French. You wind up with the analysts doing all of the work, managers getting the credit for doing nothing except gathering status. Maybe.

Employees given lip service about professional development. Performance reviews more for paperwork than actual study.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to foster an environment where all employees feel as if they are part of the team- even if they are not French.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

I worked at Société Générale

Pros: Good benefits. In general, people are nice and many have been there for a long time. . Very multicultural work force.… Cons: It is a 2 tiered bank- the french employees are treated differently than the rest and cannot be fired, which is not very good for… Advice to Senior Management: Utilize the talent pools in local markets instead of importing managers from overseas. It would be cheaper than moving someone's entire family over and… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
