Social Security Administration – “If you're incompetent, you'll love it here”
1 of 2 people found this helpfulPros
Lots of leave. Felt good when I could help people, which was very rare, because those who were truly disabled after a lifetime of work were frequently screwed by the system.
Cons
Management is horrible. They treat their people terribly. About half of the people working there are completely incompetent and lucky to have jobs. They will never be fired. The other half are talented, smart people who are completely wasted doing this work. They are underappreciated, underpaid, and under the impression that this is the only thing out there for them. It was sad.
Many of the people who come to apply for disability aren't disabled at all, just poor/desperate, whatever. Those who are disabled (and after working their entire lives) are often denied and then forced to fight, often for years, while their savings run out, homes are foreclosed, and marriages fall apart. It was awful to see and to be unable to help. The system is broken, and management doesn't care. Middle management pretends that it is all fine.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a clue. Stop sucking. Get rid of those who have no business working there at all. Make changes at the very top that actually help people, instead of helping to further destroy their lives just because they got sick or injured.
