SO SO SODEXO

Chicago, IL

Current Employee – been working at Sodexo

ProsGreat place to learn (some training!) about sanitation, client and customer service, anti discrimination laws, computer programs (type in the numbers - boom - you have a budget!), and many, many other areas. IF you have a great District Manager you really can learn a lot and get a mentor to boot. Number of weeks vacation is good, insurance good, so on and so on and so on.

ConsWork week is 50 - 60+ hrs/week. Vacation is when they say it is.
Had 2 periods when I worked 24 days straight - no additional compensation and not factored into
  bonus.
Training managers aint gonna happen - time management aint gonna happen. Tied down doing
paper work and putting out fires all the time.
Am a classically trained chef and do NOT believe that campus food has to suck as much as it does. Students are actually mad. Being constantly on the receiving end isn't fun.
If a manager isn't doing a good job my personal opinion is that may be that he didn't get the
training he needed in the first place. Managers are thrown into the weeds. Sodexo needs to
work with them before they fire them. Managers need time to train managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet managers train managers to step into their shoes - fully - or don't hold them accountable. Don't talk about cross training - do it. Listen to what your managers tell you about your customers. Stop the menu cycle. Some universities have a number of units - managers (and students) would like more choice. If the menus are creative and meet budget - why not??????
