Pros

If you like working with smart people and relish fast paced, challenging work in a growing industry - this is the place for you. Oh yeah, and you help save the world while you're at it.

Cons

"do more with less" - but this should be seen as a challenge to be smarter, not really a con

I have been working at SolarCity as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Happy people working with a purpose they all believe in
A green tech company with a very real, long-term vision
Just went public, it's soaring and here to stay
Surrounded by people with UNBELIEVABLE work ethic

    Cons

Not a startup anymore, having just gone public, so the culture may shift
Those who can't carpool will have to park nearly a mile away and take a (reliable) van shuttle

Class Action Lawsuit Warning to Sales People: Your Commissions Will Be Stolen

I have been working at SolarCity

    Pros

Growing company in a green industry, great for the planet, until you get inside and learn about the underbelly.

    Cons

The unwritten business model of SolarCity is to hire as many sales people as possible, get their sales in the pipeline, fire them, then steal their commissions. Commissions are paid: 50% on sale, 25% at day 45, then 25% after install, which takes an intentionally delayed 4 to 6 months. If you leave the company, go on maternity or medical leave, or are fired, ***you lose all commissions beyond the current 30 day pay period in which you quit or were fired***. This means you will lose 50% of your earnings when you leave. This is the subject of a current class action lawsuit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Highly unethical compensation practices.
