Great for the newbie seeking experience but extreme caution for those who have experience.

Current Employee - Channel Account Manager in Austin, TX

I have been working at SolarWinds full-time (more than a year)

Pros

- Lunch 2x week brought in (but they're skimping as of late)
- Nimble, quick, organization that's growing fast
- CEO is energetic
- The software sells itself so newbies can get experience and confidence
- Product and Marketing Teams support sales like no other company

Cons

- Sales Management is horrible
- Don't take vacation it will only mean certain doom for your deals that are outstanding
- Little to no advancement outside of sales
- One word describes the sales floor - cannibalistic
- There is no Channel mentality but rather go direct and go now
- The sales playbook - discount. call/e-mail clients till they sub-come to the pressure and buy
- In regards to salary - max payout is $110k with bonus; it's the target that they've set and outside of that and you become a target or your goal is raised to bring it back in line

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The software is great - really. There isn't a need to give away deep margins to get an order today if a day later meets the goal. See the value in your team and those that do what's right vs what's best for themselves. Develop the channel and learn where others have faltered; growth will come at a greater rate if we look to partners to help us.

I have been working at SolarWinds

    Pros

Location was good for me. Fast-growing and well regarded by analysts. Rapid company growth can create advancement opportunities if you're politically savvy.

    Cons

Lots of employee churn - people were out the minute they vested. No loyalty. Low-skilled, transactional sales team. Heavy workload, little recognition. Most managers were not good people managers. Bringing in a large number of managers from Dell, who seem intent on making SolarWinds an even gloomier version of Dell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your people. Treat them well. People want to do good work and be recognized.
