I worked at SolarWorld full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Projects and work was exciting and challenging. Great commitment to quality and defect resolution.

Cons

Upper management seems to be sluggish in responding to fluctuations in the market. Myopic approach in decision making when they closed down the test lab in Camarillo CA. This is especially evident when everyone knows you need adequate sun exposure to effectively test modules and, sorry SolarWorld, in the NorthWest you are "solar challenged" most of the year.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set up a satellite test facility in the SouthWest, where you can perform sufficient project evaluations and research.

Former Employee - Maintenance Technician in Hillsboro, OR

I worked at SolarWorld full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The schedule, location, and being part of the renewal energy

    Cons

Poor management, bad team moral, and an inefficiently ran company with a lot of wasted money that drives operating cost up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many supervisors… 8 supervisors/leads/managers for 14 technicians gives a clear explanation why SolarWorld cannot compete with China’s prices. This company is driving the prices of solar up by fighting for tariffs, but they are not fixing their own inefficiencies to reduce their own operating cost. If one manager cannot oversee 14 technicians then this company is going to continue to struggle. On top of inefficient poor management SolarWorld has a lot of wasted cost such as uniforms, celebrations, fancy newsletters that could be emailed at a cheaper cost, high turnover rates which adds expenses for training and unemployment, and etc... The only way this company will survive the competitive solar market is to look at ways to run a more efficient company and get rid of the wasted expenses and build moral. Get rid of the surplus of poor managers and save some money on the cost of solar.
