    Pros

The people are extremely passionate about their products. Sony Ericsson also treats their employees very fairly and is a great supporter of family. Their cultural diversity and global footprint makes it a very interesting place to work. They are a good balance between being too small to make a difference in the world but not too big to get lost and not see the diffference that you personally can make.

    Cons

Sony uses it as either a place to send old executives to pasture or a place for inexperienced executives to make mistakes. That is killing them and creates a "glass ceiling" for non-Japanese. They need to hire some good, outside management.

    Advice to Management

Break free from the curse of being Sony's executive dumping and testing ground.

  2. Sony Ericsson - a well recomended company to start your career in

    Pros

There's lots to do - you get a lot of responsibilities very early in your career. The market and the products are exiting and get a lot of attention in media and amongst freinds. An extremely network-based company. Things change so fast that a lot of things aren't documented - you get effective by understanding who can help you within the company. A major reorganization occurs somewhere in the company every 4 months. As an individual you are affected every 6-8 months in some way or another.

    Cons

No attention to quality. Macho management style. Promotions only based on network contacts - not results or competence. Market is unstable; lots of changes occur everyday. Unstable future due to this.

    Advice to Management

Hire a qualified quality manager from Toyota with 30+ years under his/her belt reporting directly to CEO. Right now the responsibility lies everywhere and therefore nowhere.
Start using quality as a factor to stop projects at Tollgates. During all years, volume and launch date keep "winning" - but we lose customers due to this.
Stop the culture of promoting friends and yes-sayers.
Stop R&D from having too many degrees of freedom during concept stages. All components are new - even ones that do not effect customer directly in any way at all. This just adds work, decreases quality and adds cost.
    Modularize concepts
Get SW in order. Bugs are far too many
