I worked at Sony Online Entertainment

Pros

Very well managed development team, family friendly, and a good work-life balance.

Cons

I was paid a very low salary even after turning down initial offer and negotiating for a few thousand more. Also my annual raise and bonus were tiny even though I received a great review.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great management that knows how to run a game company.

I worked at Sony Online Entertainment

    Pros

Good company to get in the industry
    Good salary
Easy to get a job with

    Cons

    - Poor management
    - The management has no idea how to run a game company in 2009
    - They are very wasteful with there cash
    - The president runs and micromanages every project. There is a huge disconnect as a CEO should run the company and not the projects
    - The CEO runs the company how game companies did 13 years ago which leads to bad games and low standards
    - Lack of focus and innovation within the games. The company tends to design by what other games are doing.
    - Not an innovative company
    - There is people in management that dont know there job.
    - There are too many managers with no use to the company.
    - People don't take responsibility for there actions because the company breads fear into everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of all the top executives if you want the company to service. You have great people that work at the studio but you need to learn to respect people ideas and learn to innovate. Get people in the company who know how to create games in 2009. Treat employees with respect and gratitude and you will make great games.

The creative people are stars, the executives however have been there way too long and are not open to new ideas.

I have been working at Sony Online Entertainment

    Pros

Incredible talent pool, especially among the animators and designers. There is also a sense of camraderie among lower to mid level employees that makes working on a project together fun.

    Cons

I'ts run like a family business with people at the top who would not qualify at any other company in the respective positions (with one exception). They need some fresh blood in senior management to survive in the long run.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review all your company policies and make changes. Let those who lead teams do their job and not meddle in their daily tasks.
