I have been working at Sony PlayStation as a contractor for less than a year

Pros

Great environment and people, and very competitive pay. Decent Sony discounts as well.

Cons

They mostly hire contractors for a project, and just let them go with a vague promise of calling them back when a new project gets started. They also don't directly offer benefits, but you can get a plan through the contracting agency.

I worked at Sony PlayStation as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

    - Direct input and feedback on design features, etc. are often requested & taken serious by most of the design team
    - Overtime was never SUPER crazy during the overall project except towards the end
    - Nice perks & company events; all employees including all contract workers were treated like the permanent employees

    Cons

    - Very poor & unprofessional and irresponsible QA Lead ran the project
    - Upper Production Management did a poor job of giving all of QA, including more experienced individuals, the ability to excel at tasks. Assignments were almost always given to the same individuals
    - Upper management & staffing representative did a poor job of handling the end-of-contract situation
    - No immediate growth opportunities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Be more open and honest with contract QA testers. Finding out your contract has ended because you noticed you were no longer on an email alias instead of being honest when individuals are asking for a status update is not very professional.
    - Give all of QA the opportunity to shine, especially during chaotic times, an individual's true abilities will usually appear at that point
    - Do a better job at screening QA Leads

I have been working at Sony PlayStation as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

The brand name of the company

    Cons

Spread too thin, carries a lot of extra baggage, cheap, no new ideas, very conservative and waste a lot of money on too many disparate technologies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Become nimble
