    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

In Denver, the scheduling is flexible, which accommodates personal lives in some ways than the traditional seven-on-seven-off schedule.

    Cons

Sound purports to prioritize physicians as its first priority. However, that is not the case. Sound is a strongly driven business model that is focused on profit, not physician satisfaction. Current leadership is not trained or skilled in dealing with physicians, and we are treated like a commodity. You have little say in decision-making. I do not feel physicians are respected or treated fairly in the organization. It is very disappointing to look at their website, which places such a strong focus on physicians, and know that they do not live up to the rhetoric.

    Advice to Management

Leadership should either be more highly trained in business or in internal medicine. People skills need to be improved. Physicians need to feel that they truly are the focus of the group and not an afterthought.

    Pros

If they were able to achieve it, the work-life balance would be the best reason to work with them. However, at this time, they are understaffed and physicians are having to work extra shifts and cover extra patients. They do have better educational resources than other hospitalist groups. Your colleagues will be above average in terms of personality, I think simply because they are attracted to a place that purports to offer less stress.

    Cons

Compensation is lower than competing hospitalist groups. No vacation is offered.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the core of your business, which is providing hospitalist physicians with the tools and support to do their job well.
