Southern California Edison – “sce- good place to work”
Pros
People are nice, relatively good pay for work. they don't insist you take your work home with you (at an entry level) so there is relatively low stress after leaving work. Offer a lot of programs to help continue eduation (my plan). I want to go back to school for phd in environmental economics and resource allocation, so not a bad place to start to get good overall background of the industry. they are very supportive of this
Cons
feels a bit stagnant at times and takes a while for anything to get moving. it is the nature of big companies. It feels a little intimidating because some of the older employees are disheartened by the company for one reason or another. They often claim that promotions are not based on quality of work but how much you kiss up to your boss. I haven't seen this yet, but only been here two months. They are not very casual either- dress code pretty strict so if you are used to wearing jeans to work (ie start ups) probably will take a while to become accostomed to chage.
Advice to Senior Management
pay more attention to your new employees, especially if they are young and eager to learn
