I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Company has good benefits, pay, and work life balance and is a great place to work while raising kids because of the flexible work schedules.

    Cons

In line promotions are hard to come by. If you want to move up the corporate ladder, you'll need to network with the right people and be there at the right time and also be willing to move around the company.

I worked at Southern California Edison full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great pay for relatively easy duties
Not a demanding place to work
    Great health benefits
Good place to work if you don't have a college degree

    Cons

    Unethical business practices
    Not welcoming of new ideas
Management turns a blind eye to the elephant in the room

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to advice from subordinates. Reward hard work. The union creates a communist type work atmosphere, but that doesn't excuse the need for hard work. Avoid a union job if you would like your hard work and effort to be rewarded. Join the union if you want a cush job, where little output is expected from the employees. There is little to no jobs at the moment as the company has hired consultants to "help trim the fat." The company structure will definitely be changing within the next decade, but the terrible Los Angeles job market still makes Edison a great place to work, based solely on pay.
