I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

SCE has great benefits, pension, 401k matching and tons of room for growth.

Cons

SCE tends to keep people that are non-contributors rather than documenting poor performance and going through the dismissal process.

I worked at Southern California Edison full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very good compensation and benefits and good people.

    Cons

Very political environment. Still ruled by the 'old guard'. Lots of cuts and job uncertainty in the near future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek to groom employees vs punishing employees for not fitting into the 'mold'. Lots of lots opportunities for short sighted management decisions.

I worked at Southern California Edison full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits and salary; company pays more than most.

    Cons

Massive RIF where top performers were cut and dead weight kept because they were the favorites or related. Leader of department has many ethics complaints yet is still in charge. No interest in retaining top talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Many top performers were walked off the property when there were still open positions available. Decisions were made by senior management who had no clue who many of the employees were and they didn't care to get to know them or their work. Many of the people let go held higher education degrees. Instead of cutting people because they don't fit the mold, perhaps investing in employee development is an alternative. Management is bloated and most were promoted while the real work force was let go. Don't waste your time with this company--layoffs are not over.
