I worked at Southern California Edison
Pros – Stable work environment (the utility is not moving out of state anytime soon) with good pay levels compared to similar work situations. Good benefits package, including a no-longer-common pension. Lots of opportunities for skill development and movement within the company.
Cons – There is too much emphasis on meeting meaningless and far from 'SMART' goals. A pervasive entitlement mentality of many employees undermines the morale of many business units. Widespread nepotism and favoritism are destructive and discouraging to those people who actually want to work. Way too much time is spent on monitoring employee performance.
Advice to Senior Management – Make it easier to move or get rid of employees that are no longer able to do their jobs adequately. Their continued presence brings down morale and causes good employees to leave. Don't let Human Resources run the company!
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
