I worked at Southern Wine & Spirits full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Excellent Proprietary Sales Software. Easily the best in the industry. Terrific portfolio filled with brands that sell through.

Cons

Brutal hours with zero work life balance; insane quota levels with qualifiers changing every other month; pointless boiler room sessions to intimidate reps; way too many superfluous meetings; complete disconnect between warehouse, office, and sales management -- it's like they're in 3 separate companies.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It should be apparent by the massive turnover rate that you're burning out reps right and left.

I worked at Southern Wine & Spirits full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Learn some sales experience-although at the lower levels it is all about buying off store managers/liquor clerks. Good bonus potential depending on your territory and division.

    Cons

driving driving driving-all day you drive and are barely compensated enough for it. The hours suck-you start most days before 4:30am in the field (although you do end at 2pm which is kinda nice). As a territory rep you basically have to hope your manager supplier pays off the store managers to get your product in there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No issued with management-more so with the company as a whole. They do not seem to care about the "little guys." And you are definitely replaceable. But with said you can do well when you are promoted!

Appears like a company with great family values, but treats you like a red-headed step child

I have been working at Southern Wine & Spirits full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

flexible schedule. can make it a fun work atmosphere being out selling liquor. they send me a paycheck each week.

    Cons

often unachievable goals. frequently having to push products that absolutely will not sell in certain geographic areas. goals are not always given on time. required to falsely report execution to make upper management look good. incentive payouts are sometimes delayed or you have to remind mgmt. that they were not paid yet. Raises are rare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get your act together and work as a team. work with the sales reps instead of against them. get goals out on time. fulfill promises that are made.
