I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Free flights (no international) just domestic.

Cons

Low starting salary~ flights are full and very tough to fly standby.~ MANDATORY OVERTIME ALWAYS~ Don't think of going home when your shift ends~~ you're told your shift is NOT ending and you're expected to work overtime~ if you say no~~ bye bye ~~ can't refuse. Meanwhile managers ~ are never around ~ as is the CEO, they all hang out in their air conditioned or heated offices~~ clueless. Morale stinks. They keep trying to pour kool aid on you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire MORE people~ STOP the mandatory overtime. Get a REAL clue about life for the workers.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Job Securtiy, 401K match, fellow employees

    Cons

Low pay, Low morale, management always looking for a reason to fire. Family atmosphere is totally non existent. Very diffictult to use stand-by flight benefits. Insurance deductiable are outragous for a family. Totally different company from when Herb and Colleen ran the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the consultants and all the management, hire more employees, listen to your " warriors" most of them consider themselves " Slaves".

I have been working at Southwest Airlines

    Pros

Fun, Flexible schedules, Flight & medical benefits are good

    Cons

Pay in this industry isn't great, but Southwest is the best if you are going to work for an airline.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to take a hard look at how Southwest was build, on it's people not by doing what everyone else did but doing their own thing. In the past years we have taken a departure from what made this company great and stand out. I believe most of the positive aspects of Southwest are left over from Herb Kelleher & are quickly fading, which is very sad.
