    I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Travel benefits, mostly friendly people, employees truly care about the company and their jobs. It's very exciting to work in the airline industry. The health benefits are outstanding. The company is very generous with employees.

    Cons

    Too many consultants and consultant-like employees running around the place who have no clue how to run an airline. Extremely political due to hanging on to "culture" of old days and dealing with unions. Also, running a 24/7 airline operation in nearly 100 cities means anything can happen at anything (which is stressful).

    Advice to Management

    Flatten the organization. Get rid of strategic planning roles and start hiring or promoting Executives/VPs/Directors who can think strategically. Make educated decisions and stick with them. You can't reach consensus on everything. Stop trying to look like the best place to work and actually *be* a better place to work.

    Pros

    Up to the early 2000s, the culture was nothing short of amazing! As Herb and Colleen transitioned away from the company, the heart and soul went with them.

    Cons

    Pay is low for comparable corporate positions
