I worked at Southwest Airlines as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

Free flights, even as an intern. The best part of Southwest is a commitment to leadership and talent development. Managers and supervisors are always happy to teach you something new. There's a "work hard, play hard" culture that encourages employees to have fun and follow their passions.

Cons

Low pay compared to other F500 and Dallas-based companies

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on young talent, particularly students who have gone through the internship program.

Former Employee - Ramp Agent in Houston, TX

I worked at Southwest Airlines part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Health Insurance and free flight benefits

    Cons

If you take up for yourself against a union worker while your still on probation, the entire Ramp Agent Supervisors will make sure you get fired without discussing anything with you. I should know they did it to me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue. TALK to new hires, don't just take FRANKS word for everything.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Union contracted, awesome benefits, free flights, feels like a family. Get to work with aircraft and get to work outside (this can also be a con, but I consider it a pro).

    Cons

Low pay. Some co-workers are non-performers and you tend to pick up others slack to get the job done. Middle management does their best to their ability, Senior management needs improvement. They don't have a clue what goes on beneath them I fear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put on a safety vest and some ear plugs once in a while, go outside, and get to really know who works under you.
