I have been working at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

Pros

The classroom opportunities and the support of other faculty are the best reasons for teaching at Southwestern and living in Fort Worth.

Cons

There is no clear statement for advancement, employee's job proformance is seldom more than satisfactory (despite objective evidence to the contrary), and the very poor communication from administration.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since faculty were considered worthy of hire, can the muzzles be removed and people be rewarded in a manner worthy of God?

I have been working at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

    Pros

There is not nearly as much pressure to perform as there is in the real world. This creates an easy-going atmosphere.

    Cons

This easy-going atmosphere masks serious issues. With no review process and thus no incentives for high performance, salary is divorced from performance. If you're a high-performer, you'll learn quickly to slow down or get frustrated and leave. If you're a slacker, you won't be reprimanded and will love the easy-going atmosphere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't neglect human nature in your management style. Yes, all of us are called to our positions and wouldn't leave unless we feel that God is leading in that direction, but you would get so much more out of each individual if you rewarded performance in meaningful, tangible ways (ie, salary). The lack of a formal review process is appalling.

I worked at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary part-time

    Pros

Scheduling is usually considerate of personal/study time; employer tries hard to employ students and assign as many hours as possible

    Cons

Some important links of communication are hard to maintain here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek to maintain better interoffice communication for various projects.
