I have been working at Sovereign Bancorp full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

An adequate amount of time off is provided to employees, however, it's nearly impossible to take time off because the staffing situation is so bad.

    Cons

Micromanagement, unrealistic sales expectations, antiquated operating systems & a general disregard for employee welfare leads to an almost unbelievabley high employee turnover rate. The average desk life for a new employee is about 3 to 6 months because clear job expectations are not provided during the hiring and training process, resulting in employees being completely unprepared to assist customers in the branch setting. Operating systems are poor & riddled with issues that result in erroneous customer fees, which management then attemps to refuse to refund despite the issue being a bank error. Sales expectations are unrealistic and unfocused. Customers are bombarded via phone calls by branch staff & call center staff trying to sell the next big promotion and then again in the lobby by tellers forcing every product the company sells to every single customer. Constant conference calls are forced on employees on a daily basis, which takes away hours of potential productivity, only to have management complain that employees are not being productive. Merit and cost of living increases are non-existant for anyone working in the trenches for this company.
