If you're self-motivated and want to hob-nob with successful people, this is a great place to get a start

ProsEntrepreneurial culture; culture of trust - people aren't micromanaged here.
Surrounded by smart, driven people
Since we're in the business of working with people, employees at the firm are generally friendly, personable, and approachable
Firm takes pride in its 'best practices' and being the gold standard for the industry
Incredible amount of flexibility in terms of time off. Many associates and consultants frequently work from home when family issues arise.

ConsPassive aggressive culture; if you mess up, people are hesitant to tell you. They'll just smile and tell you 'good job' and then complain about your work to someone else. Tough to get honest feedback around here.

Mentorship isn't the greatest. People are left to figure things out for themselves, so you have to be proactive if you want to be promoted.

A lot of vagueness surrounding promotions, salaries, and bonuses.

In many ways the culture if very much 'the good old boys club'.

Big egos/high maintenance consultants (many of them are former CEOs/bigwigs, so they expect the same treatment at Spencer Stuart - their second career - as in their former positions)

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement sometimes does things behind the scenes instead of risking 'stepping on people's toes'. Be more open and forthcoming.

Improve professional development within the firm. Give people the tools they need in order to get a promotion.
