I have been working at Sports Authority

    Pros

flexible with scheduling (usually), ability to increase your own salary by selling ECP's and spiffed items (this can be great, for example if you work for 8 hours and sell 4 pairs of Thorlo socks, you just made an extra 50 cents an hour) fun people to work with, good place for young people to work while they are in school

    Cons

constant "payroll cuts" which make it impossible for anyone to make enough money to get by on the 8$ an hour that they're making and the 10 hours a week they are scheduled...there will be 3 employees in the store and be an incredibly busy day. managers can be downright mean and completely play favorites, it gets really old after a while. high turnover rate because of extremely low morale. constantly being badgered about selling ECP's, and no matter how much you sell, it still is never enough, and the managers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

pay your employees a little bit more if you expect them to work as hard as they do. recognize when you actually have decent talent in an employee and reward that.

    Pros

    Easy interview and hiring process
Have a friendly conversation with the manager
50 cents higher than minimum pay
Manager seemed low key and friendly

    Cons

no explanation about clocking in, didn't give me I.D. number, responsible for running entire store as cashier, didn't explain about how much responsibility I really had, overwhelming amount of knowledge I had to know (ie who was working in which department), had me working about 25 hours my first week as a cashier at my first job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer better training for cashier job and first time employee
Make sure candidates know that they are responsible for EVERYTHING!
