I worked at Sports Authority

Pros

By far the best part was the 25% associate discount. You can use the discount at any store or online.

Cons

When the economy was bad the company skipped raises two years in a row. They also give very tiny raises.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership needs to take themselves off their pedastole and show more compassion to the associates who are making the company money.

I worked at Sports Authority part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    25% employee discount
    if full time wonderful benefits
    great co-workers
working one on one with customers

    Cons

they care more about the FREE rewards program then anything else. If you don't keep high numbers they will fire you. Three employees while I was working there was let go because they couldn't sign up enough

You will get the least amount of overtime as possible.
Barely get noticed by the managers.
the process for returns and exchanges is from the stone age

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees better. Teach them and help them learn their jobs better instead of pretty much letting them defend for themselves. Hire more people if you are so low on staff and not happy with the cashiers on duty.
You really need to learn to encourage employees. That I believe is a big important key to keeping them around.

Actually put someone in the area they applied to. Don't just shove them in an area you see fit.

I have been working at Sports Authority full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

This can be a good company to work for. The discount is decent and customers are in for things they want not need, so irate customers are a minimum.

    Cons

The company emphasizes communication then does not execute. Things are very compartmentalized and when areas do not communicate with each other it causes frustration and associate/customer issues.
They've tightened their wallets making training new associates near impossible.
Some store managers are more like dictators than team leaders not interested in the input of the team, but happy to place blame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start communicating and managing your field leadership better. Provide an environment where learning is possible and empower associates to solve more problems.
