I have been working at Sports Authority full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good people in a good location. It was fun and happy before someone came along and fired so many people. There are fun things like vendors setting up in the parking lot with giveaways and food trucks. Casual dress code is nice (no flip flops or t-shirts).

Cons

Old building, tiny gym (it's a sporting goods company!), unethical practices in regards to growth and salary (HR). Everyone is constantly scared so lots of micro-managing and useless "firedrills." Took away discount, flex-time, pandora...no one is happy here.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay the people who matter, upgrade everything. At least pretend you care.

I have been working at Sports Authority full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for advancement, lots of praise given for a job well done. Organized and efficient. Fun place to work and all employee's and management are fun to work with.

    Cons

The pay is not very good for people that move up within the company. You either have to move into another store or be hired from outside the company to be paid decent. Also upper management does not use a lot of discretion when keeping other employees and/or management's wages under wraps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give better raises to employees who have been with your company for many years and keep pay rates under wraps. You will keep employees with your company longer.
